"I wish I had known..."

By Buying a different bag
This bag is big, I mean really big. But that's ok, so am I at 6'1" and 250 pounds. It should be big enough for a seven foot tall 500 pound linebacker or two average people and their dog. I'll have plenty of stretch room. I have three issues with this sleeping bag. First, the cotton liner is attached only at the zipper and the foot. While using it, this liner is loose and moves independently from the rest of the bag, resulting in me becoming twisted up in the liner when I turned. I had to get it sewn to the rest of the bag. I'll see if this reduces the warmth. Second, the hood would fit someone with a head about two feet across. Third, the stuff sack that it came with is way too small and I had a wrestling match getting it back in. I bought a much larger compression bag to be able to pack it. Would I buy this again? No. Maybe the dog will like it.

Purchased a left & a right zippered sleeping bag. Wanted to zip them together to be large enough for 2 comfortably. Works great, lots of room, great length for tall people (I am 6'3"). Very comfortable, but a little tough to zip together, but not a big deal.

"Nice and warm..."

Bought 2 of these for my Grandson and me to go camping together. Bought a Left and a Right so we can zip them together if needed to stay warm. Not a problem, these bags kept us warm and snuggy.

This sleeping bag is alright. It is a workout to roll up and pack into the carry pouch. I slept with it in 40 degree weather on the side of the mountain and felt very cold all night. The zip together feature is cool for sleeping with someone else. This could also have benefited from more padding, felt stiff all night.

"One big bag!" 2010-03-02
By Paul Claxton (RIverside CA)
This is a just huge bag. I bought two to zip together for my wife and I. When combined the two are bigger than a double air bed mattress. In use the bags are comfortable but ... but the way the combine is odd. My older bags unzipped in an "L" manner so that they open flat with a top and a bottom and zippers on both sides. These Teton bags zip only down one size and combine zipping together in the middle. What this means is that the center zipper needs to be opened to climb in and out rather than the side zippers of my older ones. If one person in the bag is warmer than the other the only place to get a draft is in the center again. The seam isn't too objectionable. The compression bags are good. Starting the zippers together it a bit tougher than it needs to be as they're really tight, another 3/8th of an inch worth of slack would have made it far easier.

"Not like the Aerobed I loved for years!"
 2010-06-25
By The Balkan Trader (Oakley, CA)
About 10 years ago I purchased my first Aerobed and loved it. I took it camping, took it too Hawaii as a spare bed, my son used it in his dorm for a while and I used it as a guest bed numerous times. It was heavy, a bit smelly but worked as advertised. I have probably used it over 100 times without incident. So I decided to order another Aerobed since they were 54% off on Amazon.com. When I recieved the new one I immediatly noticed that it was a lot lighter than the old one. When I filled it with air I also noticed that the material felt softer than the old one and the new one has a fuzzy surface while the old one was just plain plastic. I had some company in town for about two weeks so they started sleeping on the new one. Within a week of sleeping on the Aerobed that was put on a carpeted surface it sprung a leak. We spent over an hour trying to find the leak and couldn't. We finally sprayed it with some soapy water and after another hour found a pin hole size hole on one of the seams. The patches supplied with the Aerobed are useless because they do not stick to the fuzzy surface. I pulled out the old Aerobed and they enjoyed the rest of their stay on the old bed without any incident.

Obviously Aerobed is now making an inferior quality product made of a thinner material that is not as durable as it used to be. I figured that the old bed weighed about 2 - 3 pounds more than the same size new one. Considering the price paid, I was very dissappointed and will show more respect for my old Aerobed hoping that it lasts much longer.Aerobed Guest Choice Twin Inflatable Bed

"Leaked air from beginning"
 2010-06-08
By Miguel
I was disappointed with this bed. I had a few friends stay over and sleep on this - and every time the bed would be practially flat in the morning. I gave it a test myself and it wasn't a good nights sleep at all. By morning I was lying on the ground pretty much. There must have been a defect/leak on mine the whole time.

One positive is the inflating motor is very good/easy to use. It inflates very quickly and efficiently.

I am exchanging this with Aerobed in hopes of getting a mattress that does not leak. Definitely not worth the $75 price if all their products are this quality. Judging by other people's review of this product, this bed seems to be hit or miss.

"Insta-Bed Review"
 2010-06-27
By Sgrego08
Here's my situation: For the summer, I moved across the country to do research. I needed a bed upon getting here that would be durable and comfortable for 10 weeks and portable enough to bring home so I wouldn't lose the investment. I looked at a few different products and eventually chose this, I couldn't be happier.

Misconceptions: While trying to find the manufacturer website, I couldn't find anything through Wenzel, however, a search for Insta-Bed quickly found the original webpage. Additionally, the bed I received is the style in the picture and not what some other sites showed (although the color I received is actually a greenish shade.

Impression:

This bed is enormous, I knew it was raised but has not expecting this. I can sit on the edge of this bed with my feet on the ground and my knees forming a 90 degree angle (I'm 6 foot tall) Width wise it seems that this could easily fit 2 people. The pump is a little quieter than a vacuum and takes only a few minutes to fill the bed. Its incredibly comfortable for an air mattress. If money isn't an issue I suggest a mattress pad or foam topper but it is definitely not necessary to enjoy the night. The design is very supportive and I never feel as though I'll roll off. I've found that the sides bulge slightly more than the picture. As for air loss, I've only had it for a week and have found no problems. Each day I turn the pump on for about 10 seconds to compensate for the natural stretching of the plastic, I'll wait to see if this is still required after the mattress is broken in. Overall I am extremely impressed with this mattress. I have no doubt it will last the 10 weeks and it is the most comfortable air mattress I've slept on. The size is a huge benefit especially for the price.

"Best Air bed!"

Best Air mattress I have ever experience. I had it inflated for more than a week and it did not lose any air

"Great bed"
 2010-06-22
By M. Lyon (Muncie IN)
We are newly retired and will be visiting our children and their family in various parts of the country. We just take our bed with us. It is a dream to sleep on! We love it. We gave one away as a house warming gift and had to buy a second one.

We bought a good mattress pad just to make sure it felt more like a bed than an air mattress. Holds air overnight and we give it a quick pump before bed the next evening. We could not be happier with it.

"Completely met expectations"
 2010-06-22
By L. McCarthy (Florida)
...I read reviews (mostly favorable) here before purchasing it and the product has fully met (and possibly exceeded) my expectations. First, perhaps it is luck of the draw, but I did not have any leakage problems whatsoever -- to the contrary, while I waited for my furniture to arrive (during an out of state move), this bed served as my only piece of furniture (so I was sitting/reclined on it quite a bit) over the course of nearly a month - and it was more comfortable than the bed I had been sleeping on while briefly staying in a hotel! Every three days or so, I would have to add a little bit of air (like 30 seconds of effort) - but I attributed this to the fact that I spent so much time on it (as I said, I used this as my bed AND as a "couch").

As for particularly good aspects of this product -- I especially like the fact that the air mattress is so "tall" (compared to most air mattresses I have used before this one). It makes it feel less like an air bed and more like a real bed (no crawling around on the floor and very easy to get in and out of bed). Also unlike other air mattresses I have used before, this one is very helpful in that the same motor that it uses to inflate, it also uses to suck air out when you are deflating it -- so gone are the days of searching for (and emptying) random air pockets when you are trying to roll up the mattress and put it away -- this was an unexpected bonus!

The only "negative" I can really give it is that if you have two people sleeping on it, you do tend to roll into the middle a little bit. However, because I am so accustomed to sleeping on Tempurpedic (my usual bed), perhaps this is because I have forgotten what it is like to sleep on non-Tempurpedic mattresses (e.g., I rolled in to the center of the hotel's non-tempurpedic bed also)....

"Won't hold air."
 2010-06-21
By Hannah Chi (Beaverly Hills, CA)
Just purchased 2 of these bed for my upcoming camping trip this weekend. Received it in two days using prime shipping. Tested both and both would not hold air over night. I would understand having one of them being a defective unit, but both???

There are two separate air chambers in this bed. Outer air chamber seems to be fine on both untis but I think it's the mid air chamber that is leaking. I also noticed that there aren't any "support" on mid section either.

"Perfect inflatable bed for temporary, or even extended, use"
 2010-06-26
By JackieVT (Vermont United States)
We had an inflatable bed that I bought several years ago for $150 (don't recall the brand). It was comfortable & was easy to inflate, but developed a leak we couldn't solve. To replace it, I searched amazon.com, saw this bed & the reviews and decided to try it. The price was great, it had the features I needed (easy to inflate!) --- the test would be: comfort and durability.

I bought the bed in April, 2010, set it up in the sun room, and it has been in use non-stop since (all bedrooms are up a flight of steep stairs, 75 lb. elderly dog can no longer climb them & whines if everyone goes to bed without him ... you get the picture.) Both my husband and I find this bed very comfortable, whether one or two people are sleeping on it. I use a normal queen sheet set & though the bottom fitted sheet does slip some, the traction of the top of the bed against the sheets works to keep the bottom sheet generally in place.

Because we don't know how long our camping-in-the-sun-room will last & because all inflatable beds are subject to developing leaks, I decided to order a 2nd one of these as a back-up and to use with company we are expecting this summer - for the price, it can't be beat.

2 adults used the bed for 3 nights in a row and it only lost a little bit of air. They said they were able to sleep pretty comfortably. I would have given it 5 stars for the first use, but I want to see how the bed holds up over time before I give 5 stars overall.

"Intex raised bed" 2010-06-25

We have been sleeping on the bed the last 8 days...very comfortable. With the height, almost like a regular bed. Have to add a little air each night, but good sleeping.

"Just an air mattress"
 2010-06-24
By Jay Robinson (Illinois)
For the money, this is a great way to have an extra bed. Don't get lost in all the hype of features, it's still just another air mattress. It's not incredibly comfortable, but it serves the purpose.

"Comfy, good height, plenty firm enough" 2010-06-23
By Cassandra Donovan (Seattle, WA)
My boyfriend and I have slept on this bed for a long weekend, twice. Its comfy, super easy to inflate, holds air well and a good size for two people (and we ain't little people). It was almost too firm for me one night, which is not what I expect from an airbed.

And I was actually amazed when my boyfriend got out of bed and I couldn't even tell a difference (no rolling suddenly to the center or dipping precipitously to the side).

When a friend of mine needed a bed for a visiting relative, I recommended this one highly. She bought it and got good reports as well.

It's also nice that its high, pretty much as high as a regular bed so you don't have get up from the floor.

About Eureka
Although the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, NY, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for 19th-century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and early 1940s. The company even fabricated and erected a series of IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton, housing thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had outgrown its previous locale. With the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, renowned explorer Sir Edmund Hillary used Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent--with its practical, freestanding external frame--in a Himalayan expedition to Nepal (Hillary had climbed to the summit of Mt. Everest only six years earlier). In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants during the first all-American Mt. Everest Expedition, where explorers braved fierce 60-plus mph winds and temperatures reached below -20F.
Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s, targeting it to backpackers and families. The first to employ the StormShield design, the lightweight, self-supporting backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents in the industry, with sales reaching over 1 million by its 10-year anniversary. Eureka tents have also traveled as companions on other historic expeditions, including the American Women's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent years, Eureka designed and donated tents to Eric Simonson and his team. The group took two historic research expeditions to Mt. Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history by finding the remains of George Mallory, but the overall mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found several historical artifacts that are now on display at the Smithsonian.

Amazon.com Tent Guide

Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Expect the Worst

In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all-purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in. If you're a backpacker, alpine climber, or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to use something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents

For summer, early fall, and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three-season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproof camping.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four-season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.

Domes and Tunnels

Tents are broadly categorized into two types: freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floorplan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one- and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it with less weight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.

Size Matters

Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Bought this tent, took it camping memorial weekend. We fit 9 people in this tent. 2 Adults, 5 teenagers, and 2 smaller children. We had 2 full air mattresses 2 twin air mattresses and 3 cots. Very roomy. We even had a freak thunderstorm, it never leaked. Air flows through very well. Can't wait to take it camping again!!

By Sound Sleeper 7 - 9 (San Antonio, TX)
I was worried about buying this tent without any reviews posted, but I decided to take the chance anyway. Hopefully my review can help someone else out. I have not been camping in this tent yet, but it is currently set up in my back yard taking on the rain as we speak. First of all, the tent was very well packed and protected in a great bag when it arrived. The instructions said that two adults were required for assembly, but all I had was my four-year-old son. The instructions for assembly are sewn into the bag, so you cannot lose them! I set my son to work assembling the poles which he did with ease since they all have a cord inside that helps snap them together. The parts are not labeled, but they make sense for assembly anyway. After sorting all of the poles, I rolled the tent out onto a tarp base that I purchased to protect the bottom of the tent. We quickly inserted the poles into the top of the tent and had the main dome up in a matter of 10 minutes. After that, the rest of the assembly took only another 10 minutes, including the rain fly. The fly was a challenge to put on the tent with only one adult since the tent is so tall, but I managed to get it in place. So far, the rain fly is my only concern because after securing it in place, it caused the two smaller rooms on the back side of the tent to deform slightly. I did not mark this rating down however, as after looking at it, my back yard is somewhat unlevel, and I believe that is the cause for this deformation. I will report back after I have had a chance to assemble later on level ground on our first camping trip.

I have to say that walking into this tent for the first time was a real treat. This is the first tent I have ever owned which allowed me to stand upright inside. The two smaller rooms on the back side are shorter, however, I think most people will use these rooms for storage. The room divider runs parallel with the front door of the tent, with a single zipper that runs from top to bottom in the middle. The two halves of the divider separate and tie up at the sides so you can comfortably walk underneath. It looks like the 17.5 foot wide back half of the tent will comfortably accomodate two queen sized air mattresses, which is what we plan to put inside. This leaves the front half of the tent to put our other items. Of course you will be able to set the interior up however you would like. There are little pockets all over the inside of the tent which will allow us to stow smaller items like keys, phones, kids toys, or even shoes. As far as the build of the tent is concerned, it seems well made with good solid materials and craftsmanship. The floor is not a solid piece, however, it is "a sonic-welded polyethylene floor" and I have no reason to believe that the welded seams would ever leak. As I said above the tent has been out in rainy conditions for five hours now. Even without seam sealer, the tent has only one very small leak in the back, and that leak has amounted to about half the size of a dollar bill. Not bad for steady rainfall. I will be buying a seam sealing kit soon and taking care of all of the seams inside. Once that is done, I think this tent will be everything we need and more for a family of four.

"You pay more for the "Swiss Army" name but it's worth it!"

By Crystal Lee Videgar
I just went on a 7 dsy csmping trip with this tent and just like my last Swiss tent this one was worth EVERY penny! Tons of space, plus we had very wet weather this trip and of the 12 people that camped with us we were the ONLY ones that had a water tight tent! Ozark trail has nothing on Swiss Army! Not only was it Water tight, but while we were throwing the football around my boyfriend landed on the side of the tent and collapsed the whole side of it, I wanted to beat him for ruining my new tent, but all I did was pull one pole back into place and the whole tent popped right back into place! I will NEVER buy another tent that isn't Swiss Army brand!

"Very good tent for camping"
 2010-05-21
By Floyd Smith (Landover Hills, Maryland United States)
I brought this tent for my Boy Scout group and it worked out pretty well. It's a nice size tent and hold about two teenagers Scouts or three cub Scouts. The only problem I had is that the back part of the tent can get wet if you're not careful about keeping the flap zipped up.

We had a little rain come down and the tent got a little wet from the rain because the Scouts had the back flap down to cool of the tent.

Other then that it's a good tent to have.

"Basic tent, gets the job done"
 2010-05-19
By Laura G. (Sacramento, CA USA)
I have only used this tent once for a weekend trip on the Northern CA coast. Weather was in the 40-50's with fog and the ground was damp. Tent held up well and was especially easy to set-up and take down. We had very light rain/dense fog and stayed dry. Easily fit a double air mattress and backpacks. The tent floor measures 7 feet, but if you sleep on an air mattress (which raises you a few inches off the tent floor) you may have problems if you're over 5'8" because the sides are sloped. I'm 5'7" and was on an air mattress and I barely fit without having either my head or feet pushing against the tent sides. Overall: good basic car camping tent, will trust it for fair/moderate weather, came with a handy carry case, and the price was great.

"Excellent family tent"
 2010-06-15
By Jess Howe (San Diego, CA USA)
Please note that I haven't used this tent in the rain. I have yet to experience how it handles that. However, I have used it for a week, and it works well. It sets up quickly once you get the hang of it. The instructions are a little hard to follow. All the zippers work well, except for the expansion zipper on the carrying case. That broke the first time I tried to use it. But hey, it's not critical. The kids all loved having their own room that could be completely sectioned off. I liked how it has a bunch of hooks to hang flash lights and battery powered lanterns.

"Great tent"
 2010-06-14
By KrisD (Maryland)
We did a lot of research, and purchased a another tent this spring before getting this one. We tried to go inexpensive, and paid for it with our first tent breaking and falling on top of us in the middle of the first night we camped in it. Granted we were on the beach and it was a very strong wind storm. As we were leaving the campground, this Columbia tent is one of the only tents we saw still standing. Now that we have it, have used it a few times now and we love it. It is constructed well, all of the details are well thought out.

It is extremely easy to put up and take down. Normally my husband and I do it together in about 15 minutes. Yesterday I had to put it up to finish drying out and I did it myself in less than 20 minutes.

While camping this past weekend we had a good strong wind and rain storm, and the tent held up great. We did get some puddles by the door, but we didn't have the guy lines staked out on the fly - so that would have helped.

We fit a queen air mattress on one side with plenty of room for our bags and room to walk on either side of the mattress and through to the other room. In the other room we fit a twin air mattress, a pack-n-play and the kids' bags, and still had plenty of room between the kids' beds and room to walk. This tent is huge. The back room is well ventilated even leaving you plenty of privacy, the front room has okay ventilation for a tent(if you still want some privacy), great ventilation if you don't have to worry about privacy.

Since the awning is not over the door, don't count on using it as a traditional awning to store muddy shoes, keep the rain off as you go in and out of the tent. But it is great to put a small table to store things out of the rain, or to sit under to keep out of the rain or sun. We stored our camp chairs under it during the rain storm and they were dry in the morning - and the awning stayed up through the wind.

This is a fantastic tent. Get your own stakes, as usual, the stakes that come with it are not great and bend very easily. But you will not be disappointed with this tent. It is great for a young family - the back room has no exterior door so the kids cannot get out without going over you. And as the kids grow up, you can use the front almost as a screen room.

"Wow...what a great tent!!!"
 2010-06-08
By S. Le
Okay, the vacation...not so good, but the tent was great. It not only rained every day, but I mean it poured, hard. We had no leaks, whatsoever. The best part was that we could leave the windows open because of how they tilt out. I do recommend sealing the seams. We did this with the seam sealer that is included with the tent.

"Good but could be better"
 2010-06-08
By J. Fruge (KC, Missouri United States)
This is a good tent - I purchased this family size tent after using Eureka! tents for years. I've used it 7 times so far this season.

What I like:
* Size - this tent is spacious inside.
* Accessories - cup holders and storage bins are well thought out.
* Appearance - this tent looks nice and we've received compliments on it.
* Venting - with the windows unzipped this tent stays fairly cool inside. With the windows zipped and the bottom back air vents open it does a moderate job circulating air.
* Security - my kids sleep in the second room and I love knowing that no one can come or go without coming through my room in the tent.
* color coded tent poles.

What I don't like:
* The rain fly takes as long to put on the tent as the rest of the tent takes to build. If you like to try and leave the fly off at night, if it starts to rain, you will have a very hard time putting this fly on in the dark and with any speed. Especially given the number of tie downs on the thing (8).
* If every cord isn't tied down on the tent then it greatly increases the probability of leaks. This tent does a fair job of keeping rain out depending on how well it is tied down. The tie downs round out the roof-line and let the rain roll off of it instead of pooling up and leaking into it.
* After 6 uses one of the bay window tent poles broke while in use. The pole snapped and the window went from nice and round to being "v" shaped. The lesson learned here is always camp with a tent pole repair kit. Fortunately the repair wasn't difficult, but I was disappointed in the pole cracking after only 6 uses.

Overall, I'm happy with the tent purchase and would recommend this tent to a friend.

"Surdy, Roomy and Reliable!" 2010-06-08
By Kathleen A. Foulkrod (SE Michigan)
We love this tent - it was a first tent purchase for us and our 3 children, and we researched it thouroughly as we are new to camping! It is roomy and we love the two room feature. This weekend we were using it at our town's Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. The Relay was evacuated in the evening due to bad weather and heavy storms headed our way. We were told to leave all our belongings and go. I was so sad to leave our beautiful tent! The local newspaper just ran a story stating that of the 114 team campsites, there were 2 tents at the fairgrounds left standing...1 was our Columbia! It shook so hard that the bedrolls we had secured in the overhead netting were shaken loose, and one of the round rings that secure the main poles at the groun now looks a bit more like an oval, but our tent was standing. Only a tiny bit of the floor was wet in one corner. In fairness, we did have some heavy things inside the tent that helped to weigh it down, and there was a partial building behind us a ways that may have borken the winds a bit, but 2 tents left standing...that's impressive. I highly recommend this tent. After we bought ours, our friends bought the same one after doing research and they love theirs too! You will be the envy of your camping friends and neighbors! :)

If you're a backpacker, alpine climber, or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to buy something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall, and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three-season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are specifically designed for summer backpacking or other activities. Many premium tents will also feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain fly for enhanced waterproofing.

Tents are broadly categorized into two types: freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and tents that must be staked down in order to stand upright. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being lighter.

A wide range of capacities is available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

"Great backpacking tent" 2010-06-19
By Ignacious
Ordered this for my son who is a scout. I wanted something small and compact to attach to a backpack and I could not be happier with this tent. It is very small and puts up very easy. The one problem I have is the carrying case came with one of the handles cut in half but the tent was still new so it must of been a production line problem that missed inspection or something. This does not matter much since it will be strapped to a backpack. As any tent if it says 2 person it means 2 really cramped or 1 with some gear. I would recommend this tent to anyone looking for an affordable but solid tent for 1-2 people.

"Zipper flaps would be nice" 2010-06-18
By D. Price (OK)
After receiving this tent, one thing is true. It is pretty light. 4lbs. No guylines, but the tent is sturdy without them. No zipper storm flaps on the door lets alot of water in. The rest of the fly seems to work pretty good. No vestable means no coffee in the rain. Not bad for Wenzel's first try at a low wheight, low price backpacking tent.I hope they keep trying. It fits a little snug. Long enough but not wide enough. Easy, fast set up.If your not expecting rain or alot of wind this would be a backpackers dream tent at the wheight and the price.

"Nice for one-person plus gear" 2010-06-05
By GMK (Port Townsend, WA)
So far I've use this once for a 2 night outing. It did experience some rain for about a one-hour downpour. I was not in the tent for the rain, but did need access to gear while it was raining. As the picture shows, the rainfly does not cover the door. I ended up with some puddles on the floor even though I shook the tent to get as much rain to run off as possible. I didn't have gear or bedding right there and was able to mop it up pretty easily. I think it did well for the price paid. I'm happy with my purchase. My fellow campers were impressed with its design and cuteness.

"A few Problems, But it's everything I would expect." 2010-06-01
By Cort Lillard (Annapolis Maryland, USA)
I agree with everything that other reviewers have said, but wanted to add a few workmanship issues I received with my tent.

Firstly, the fiberglass poles that are included are not of great quality. The ones I received had an extra punch in the metal ferrule connector section, and would not allow one section of my pole to seat properly. Because of this, after a particularly windy campout, that section of fiberglass pole shattered. Although the construction of the tent allowed it to stay up for the night, it was a bit disheartening since it was my 5th or 6th night in the tent. I placed a call to the Wenzel company customer support line, and they are sending a new pole now. At least they have very friendly customer service.

I looked into purchasing aluminum or carbon fiber poles, but the ultimate cost would be more than the price of the tent.

Also, because of the the rain fly design, the door section of the tent is very prone to becoming wet in the morning because of dew moisture. I have heavily treated the tent with waterproofing/sealing spray, but it is still a bit damp.

I am 6'2", 230 Lbs, and fit comfortably, and am able to sit up in the tent.

All in all, i am happy with my purchase, but you get what you pay for.

"Sort of what you'd expect..." 2010-06-01
By E. Jacobson
What you'd expect for a under 25 tent. Right away one of the elastic band that runs inside one of the tent poles to hold them neatly together snapped. Thankfully the tent could still be set up - the section on the pole fit together pretty well - but that is sort of a mark of the general level of quality on the tent. We bought it to go camping in Big Bend/West Texas for a couple days, and despite the wind and rain, the tent held up fine otherwise. I gave it a high rating even though the pole broke because in the realm of cheap tents it performed nicely otherwise - it held up to the elements, it was easy to stuff back into the tent bag, when staked down it was pretty roomy for a two person tent, wasn't too heavy, and it was easy to set up. I would use it again on shorter camping trips where I was within 50 miles of civilization.

"Good tent but not for cool weather" 2010-06-17
By J. Ure (Denver)

This is a good little tent for my husband and myself. We go camping in the mountains only a couple times a year. This time we went over Memorial Day, when it can still be chilly. Putting up the tent was easy and intuitive. We waterproofed the tent and everything stayed dry despite a couple hours of rain and hail. We were even able to get the tent back into the tent bag when we were done and took it down. My only complaint, and it is unfortunately a big one, is that you can't close all the windows in the tent. It has two large vents (screens) on the top half of the tent that cannot be sealed. That made for some very cold nights. I can also foresee some problems if there was a windy day in a dry area, as the rainfly barely covers those vents and dust/dirt particles could get in there. Unfortunately, our new tent will be replaced sooner than later due to those problems.

"Awesome little tent!" 2010-06-01
By K. Kainula (SSM, Ontario)

Let me set the record straight, this tent is awesome! I am 6'2 and it sleeps me very well. It went through about 5 straight nights of constant rain and I or anything inside the tent did not get wet at all. This tent is super. For the price, buy it! The color combo is also really eye catching as well. Easy to set up and take down.

"Best value for the money" 2010-05-28
By A. Tegtmeier (Northern Alabama)

The setup is easy and can be done by one person. The ventilation of the tent is exceptional, because it has mesh on the top third of the walls.

Size-wise, subtract one person from the description and you are on the safe side. A Queen sized air mattress fits perfectly in the tent, with some space left for additional stuff. How many people you want to stack on the Queen mattress is your business, but my family refused to play Sardines in their sleeping bags. But two adults easily can have a very comfortable sleep in there.

The tent has some nice additional features that do not make or break the deal, but are a nice touch anyway - the storage pouch on one wall, and the cooler door which is accessible from the outside.

The tent comes with all seams already sealed, which saves a lot of time. It also dries very quickly, which is kind of important for all those tours when you have to rely on it more than one night.

The fabrication is very good, no complaints about quality issues.

All in all a very good tent, and a super deal for that kind of money!

"Great in the heat, not in the cold" 2010-05-28
By R. L. Halpert (SF Bay Area)

This is a well constructed little tent that is relatively easy to assemble. Needless to say, 7'x7' is not a whole lot of room for the advertised "3-Person" capacity, especially since I am 6'4". However, this is no surprise - all the other tent manufacturers would call this a 3-person tent as well. The tent allows breezes to flow through easily due to the two vented sides (under the rain cover in the images). These vents do not close, so the tent doesn't fare well in cold weather, and it wouldn't provide privacy without the rain cover. On the other hand, the vented sides did a great job of preventing condensation in the morning after a cold night, and with a warm enough sleeping bag the fact that the inside of the tent doesn't warm up much really doesn't matter. I highly recommend this tent for anyone who is aware of these facts.

"Great Tent" 2010-05-04
By C. Hargrave (franklin,va)

The reviews i read on this particular tent before my purchase persuaded me into buying it. I am glad i chose to go with this particular tent because it definitely lives up to its claim of staying dry! Also, i have never been "into" camping so to speak until this year. This tent was easy to set up and had plenty of room for my husband, daughter and myself. I definitely will stick to buying Coleman products for my future camping trips.
